Spot on Barry! I’ve watched many companies go from strategic planning for long term growth to what kind of numbers can we get in the next thirty days. This, and the immediate gratification provided by social media, in my opinion. has contributed to PR being more reactionary than thoughtful; less strategic and more “I can shout louder than you” based. We were lucky that we had corporate executives that listened to our advice and included us in planning. I hear from many young professionals today that is no longer the case. Again, my opinion.

Very important message… Over 40 years ago, you turned me down at USA. It was an important moment for me and a certain fork in the road. You were honest with me and that made my frustration convert into positive change.

Life went forward and I found a home at ABC.

Your example for me was the absolute intensity that you invested in your work. I never forgot.

Amen, Barry. PR is a completely different field than it once was.

The partnership between journalism and PR has degraded as each noble profession has been downsized and replaced through social media, crowd sourcing, and algorithmic message control. I long for the days of thoughtful, researched and vetted information.
