These are scary times. Our country is deeply divided on too many serious issues.

Abraham Lincoln spoke of a “house divided,”paraphrasing from the Bible, Matthew 12:25. He said, “And Jesus knew their [the Pharisees'] thoughts, and said unto them, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.’ "

Makes you wonder just how much trouble we’re in.

It is quite scary, sad and depressing these days when it comes to the state of our nation. I hope that rational thought will prevail, including verbal discourse. I too will not go quietly into the goodnight. There are lots of us out here that won't and remember that there are lots of people out there, whether they are urban, suburban or rural that don't hate and are essentially good. You are not alone Barry!

Sad but true that you can find similar thought all over.

Truth. But it often feels very dangerous to do so.

Thanks Barry for sharing and educating.

Agreed! The rich people in North Scottsdale will overlook everything so that they can keep more money out of the hands of the poor in the rest of the state. They look past murder, they look past treason and treachery, and they most surely look past common decency.

It is completely disgusting. If the whackos get elected to positions of power, we are selling our home and moving out of state.

The north Scottsdale ZIP code was the single largest contributor to the campaign of TFG. I can’t even imagine how far from decency these entitled old white people are up here who supported a guy who dishonored our troops literally sold out America.

It use to be folks didn’t talk about politics or religion in a group…wish we could go back to that time….

It’s interactions like the one you describe that for the first time in my life have made me feel like I need to “escape” from this country. I don’t feel safe as a Jew, as a woman, and for the first time being single just feels like I’m a sitting duck. I used to be a news junkie and now I almost consume none. There is less and less civil discourse. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been called “libtard” it just separates us more. I don’t need to be a “right fighter” I just want to be able to exchange ideas and maybe learn from each other. The extremists on both sides are too far gone. Great piece.

It all starts at the dinner table.

Now these haters are emboldened

by the internet. No longer isolated.

Bigotry served without reservation.

The root of all bigotry and destruction lies in EXTREMISM - unfortunately bolstered, justified and financed under the banner of religion. I am astounded by the hate-based rhetoric that is so blatantly and proudly touted by supposedly educated and civilized folks these days. There is truly an emboldened radicalization afoot and it is global. Scary.

I have had similar experiences here innNew Jersey. Very unpleasant. I made the mistake of asking a right winger why he felt the way he did and that I was interested in what he had to say. His response was; you people, etc etc. And, I have no interest in what you have to say. After that exchange, I learned that he died the next week. Karma.
